A Blend of Old and New

Okay, so the phrase “Line them all up in a retro parade” in the intro is a little bit misleading, but it sounded so cool! And it rhymed! The truth is, the magazine is going to focus on all gaming, not just retro, because I am a game whore. I will play anything you put in my hands. Just this week I have played Metal Slug on my Korean knock-off Pandora Box, some digital re-creations of some classic Gottlieb pinball tables in Visual Pinball, loaded up some Zombie Army 4 on Steam, and have been whittling away at Echoes of the End on Xbox. I have also been working on New Super Mario Bros. Wii and tinkering around with House of the Dead Overkill. In between that I will usually go back to the Korean knock-off Pandora Box (I don’t even know what to call this thing) and play some old beat ‘em ups like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Final Fight, and TMNT.

There really is a stupid amount of choice at my fingertips. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve been playing video games 42 out of the 46 years you’ve been on the planet.

As of right now, I am currently building my own personal Dented Arcade unit. I hesitate to call it a cabinet because even in its design phase, it’s beginning to resemble more of a Frankenstein’s monster of screens, cables, controllers, light-guns, guitars, and maybe even a steering wheel. It’s hideous. I’m not talented enough to build a physical cabinet to hide all that shit, so it’ll be looking more like Prototype Iron Man, as opposed to Nano-suit Iron Man. It will look like it was built in a cave, with some scrap, is what I’m saying.

But it will work. It WILL work.

It will work…
